AMLA's Five for the Future of Media Literacy Education

Short Range Initiatives (2007- 2009) with Long Term Impact

1. Promote widespread adoption of the ‘Core Principles of Media Literacy Education.'
Encourageorganizations and educational entities to adopt these principles ascommon ground around which media literacy educators and advocates canengage in vibrant and ongoing dialogue, and as a first step in thedevelopment of clear, measurable outcomes and benchmarks for medialiteracy education in the United States.

Launch date: NMEC: June 2007

 
2. Strengthen Communications with all Audiences.

Build a strong communications infrastructure through e-mail notices, the UPDATE newsletter and a vital, interactive website that serves members and provides information, resources and networking to support thedevelopment of media literacy education.

 

3. Publish the Journal of Media Literacy Education.

Establish a professional journal for the field featuring peer-reviewed research,articles on best practices, resource reviews and commentary on issues in the field.
Launch date: Spring 2009
 

4. Launch the NAMLE Online Marketplace.

Developan online marketplace of ideas and resources for learning and teachingin the field of media literacy.  Incorporate the former resourcecatalog of the Center for Media Literacy.
Launch date for Summer 2008 
 

5. Create ‘Connected Communities' to support and expand the field.

Cultivate opportunities for members to grow professionally, to inspire new members to join and to create strong vibrant "connected communities"that will advance and promote media literacy education - locally,regionally, nationally.
